Player of the Week

Nov. 23rd 2008 Eric Smith School

vs. Teaneck Strikers (1-2 L)

This week’s player of the week was once again voted on through the player’s poll. It was a great defensive game in the harsh field conditions. This award will be split by two of the Wildcats tough back line. GK Lorenzo Quattrocchi and defender Mike Calderon made a day of shutting down their opposing attacks. Quattrocchi was in top form as he made some sick saves to keep the game close at hand, unfortunately it was too bad the little guy couldn’t jump over 6’4 Banana!
Calderon (aka “Tico Chico”) put check on his attackers and stayed tight to the speedy Teaneck offense. Both players had great defensive shut downs throughout the match.

Nov. 16th 2008 Veterans Memorial Park

vs. ITAFAQ (9-1 W)

This week’s POW is awarded once again by a voting poll from the team. Very familiar with this achievement, it’s the 2nd time Kitson has been awarded this fall. Even though he couldn’t score the 22 sitters in front of the net, he did happen to finally find netting once. Even bigger, Kitson’s hustle and straight edge passing assisted for 5 of the 9 goals! That’s a nice percentage and overwhelming contribution to the club’s 9-1 win. It must be that Sicilian badge on the back of the Chevy Impala that gives him the drive week to week! Nice job "Cougar Kitson"!

vs. Emeralds (7-3 W)

WFC veteran striker Josh Hollens came in determined this past Sunday to end his 5 game scoring drought, and he sure lived up to his promise by netting 2 goals into the Emeralds defense. Fighting for every ball, number 5 came up big in the first half giving the WFC squad the equalizing goal (followed by a classic Fabrizio Ravanelli celebration).
Second half was just as good as the first for Hollens as he netted his second of the game by shoving his marker into the ground with a clean shoulder bump and putting it passed the keeper.
Also to mention great performances by Brinkofski and Kitson both with 2 assists and 1 goal a piece.

Nov. 2nd 2008 Kearse Memorial Field

vs. Union Ukrainians (0-3 L)

This week's POW is being awarded and shared by two of the club's spitfire wingmen. Brinkofski and DaSilva ripped down the flanks and fought hard for every chance to win the ball in the State Cup tourney this past weekend. With elbows dropping like bombs, Brinkofski kept his head down and plugged away at the Ukrainian defense.

DaSilva found his stealthy stride and looked his best this year on the right side, also to mention his calm composure throughout the entire match. The two wingers decided to swap their usual field positioning to see if they could mix it up. The club hopes to see them carry the momentum into the next few weeks of play. Nice work Goose and Slider!

Oct. 26th 2008 Eric Smith School

vs. Startime (1-2 L)

This week’s award goes to the "King of movie lines" Eric Prigot, another great addition to this year's WFC squad. It didn't take long for Prigot to blend in with the rest of the squad, enough so to convince veteran Mike Calderon to give up his beloved #8 jersey. This Sunday we saw great things come from the new #8, great passing, clear communication and flawless defensive tackles, Eric also assisted WFC's equalizing goal.
We know this will be one of many great performances this rookie will bring to the table this season.

Oct. 19th 2008 Valley National Bank

vs. Ramsey Rangers (4-2 W)

This week’s award needs no poll as we saw greatness from WFC rookie Adam Samples. Right spots and great shots found 3 goals from the feet of Samples and now brings him to 6 goals in 7 games. The goals are showing that he is an asset to the club’s success and his positive attitude doesn’t hurt either. Composed and cool through a rough Rangers game, the early goals would help blow a crushing defeat to the opponent this week.

Oct. 12th 2008 Eric Smith School

vs. Oakland Strikers (2-1 W)

With player of the week award now being in the hands of the team’s poll, it has been awarded to Tim Greenberg for week 5. Maybe it’s the wine he makes in his basement, or the number he dons on his back that make his skills flow. Greenberg came up in a big way this week. Walks away with the game winner as he finished a late shot in the box to bring the club up 2-1. Like a sniper waiting in the tall grass, Greenberg was quietly lurking but lethal with his passes and hard work throughout the match. It was like pulling the lever and hitting the jackpot as Tim’s eyes lit up after his finish to goal.

Oct. 4th 2008 Eric Smith School

vs. Waldwick Kickers (7-0 W)

This week’s “player of the week award” goes to the entire WFC for their insane production in the 1st Round of the League Cup. 7 goals could easily have been 10, as the Cats firing squad finally realized that they have to put shots between the woodwork and not over. The Cats defensive composure housed every offensive Waldwick player from producing much – leading  to the squads first shutout. It was back to fun for the club as everyone contributed and the chemistry clicked. Special mention to Kitson as he came out with a hatrick, all this while driving up from AC at 6 in the morning – true dedication.

Sept. 29th 2008 Ramsey High School

vs. Costa Rican United (1-1 D)

After battling numerous injuries last year, the 08/09 season has started on a high note for this veteran, 3 goals in 4 games so far. Josh Hollens gets to take home this week's award after bringing the Cats back up on their feet with the equalizing goal, a great left footed strike blasted right passed the keeper.
Although getting tackled hard from his opposition numerous times, Hollens showed the Costa Ricans that it will take a little more than a few hard tackles to shut him down this Sunday. Keep the goals coming number 5!!

Sept. 21st 2008 Eric Smith School

vs. Kappa Real Wyckoff (2-4 L)

This week’s award goes to none other than the bar shaking, Liverpool staking, free kick taking center middy - Nick Stokes. 2 Goals in 3 games, he is off to a great start for the year. With a spectacular free kick that shook the top bar and brought energy back into the club, Stokes lit another fire that the club so desperately needed as it brought the club closer to a 3-2 deficit. There was nothing the Kappa Keeper could do about the blazer Stokes sent in from 25 out. Put your money on it that he practices these free kicks everyday with his Kinnelon squad! From start to finish there was no complaining as Stokes was an integral part to the Wildcats 90 minute fight.

Sept.14th 2008 Eric Smith School

vs. Lake Parsippnay (5-2 W)

Barely Legal and still showing the Cats how to get it done, this week’s player of the week is awarded to “Little Bro” Chris Brinkofski (aka “Brink” aka “Brinktastic”). Even though he just took his training wheels off his bike, he made it to the game and decided to light up the scoreboard with two goals over Lake Parsippany. What probably could have been questioned as a cross into the box, Brinkofski assured it was a shot (as he mustered out a little girls yelp) and put away his 2nd of the day. Even though netting 2, Brinkofski also gave the drive, effort, and contribution to receive this week’s award. We look forward to more great games from our speedy winger!

 Sept.7th 2008 Votee Park

vs. Teaneck Strikers (3-3 T)

Well you’ve seen this name for this award in the past. Becoming a true work horse and heart to the team, Paul Kitson is Week 1 player of the week. Just five minutes in, Kitson stepped up and buried a PK to start the season off with a quick goal. But he wasn’t done yet as he continually pushed himself and his teammates to keep working hard. A second goal could have come as he chipped from outside the box and caught the top bar of the goal. You could tell one goal wasn’t going to be good enough as Kitson kept fighting to get chances at net. Eventually finding net for his 2nd, it tied the game at 3 and saved the Cats from a loss. Hard work and constant fight, a well deserved award.
