Match Highlights

 vs. Jack Dempsey FC

League Game 11 - 4/11/10 Ramsey, NJ: For the 2nd and time this year, the WFC would face an unbeatable JDFC.  The WFC was in it to win it, and if that one didn't hit the post, it more than likely would have gone in favor for the Cats.

From beginning to end, both clubs played with force. Hustled, broke up plays, possessed, and even added physical play that made the game what it was. Losing 2-0 was the score, but not the story. Every chance the JDFC had in the 1st half would be fired high or wide of the goal, and they had the majority of chances. The WFC would avoid any damage and stay knotted at zero's for the 1st. The club was a little deeper on inventory than JDFC's and knew the 2nd half would payoff if they could keep the hustle.

Starr, Huter, and R Depiero, were shutting shit down. It was a solid defense down the middle. With P. Kitson back in the mix, there was another dynamic for the Cats to feed off of. Stokes and Greenberg had their hands full in the middle and were also putting closure on some of the JDFC's offense. Kitson's time would increase throughout the game and we held our breathe as he handled the right wing with his speed. If Samples was a half a step more on a his runs, he would have easily buried two.

With a few minutes remaining in the game, Samples broke up a play outside of the box and found Hollens trailing behind. His shot fired near side and found the sidebar. The kind of thing that will give forwards nightmares. One inch to the right and it would be a different outcome. With the rebound, the opponent would rummage back and score on a controversial off-sides play a few minutes later.

Adding insult to injury...the "axeman" of the murder twins,  J Depiero would begin his assault on the JDFC's offensive player #24. The two could be found in the corner holding hands and giving hugs, before the Referee would catch on and throw a PK call within the box. 2 minutes left, and it was done with a laser to the corner. 2-0.

If the Cats can play there same game moving forward, things will definitely go in their direction. Oh yeah and how about Mr. Prigot showing up with no son in tow?! That guy has class!

 vs. Startime

League Game 10 - 3/28/10 Ramsey, NJ: For the 2nd time this year, the WFC would face their previous league rival Startime. After a rough loss last week, the club was ready for their form to come back. The Cats sights were set for domination.

It was a totally different start than their previous outing. From the kick off, the pressure was placed on Startime players. The cats would appear to have the balance of possession and attacks that were heading towards net. Shortly into the first half forward Samples would make it interesting on a PK awarded for a hand ball in the box. The shot would nick off of the goalie and into the side net! The WFC would go up by 1. It wasn't enough as Greenberg and Prigot would keep ensuing drives for the forwards to work off of. Hollens found himself alone on a run down the right side and chipped the Startime goalie that was coming out to challenge. 2-0 and the Cats found life in their game. From then on, the Cats drove their opponent to their heels, holding onto the ball, running down the flanks, and challenging everything.

Prigot would find R. Depiero's head on a sweet cross in from 35 out to bring the club up to a 3-0 domination.  No looking back seemed to be the theme as Startime couldn't find much of an attack against the Cats star "Defense". Center middy Greenberg would make it look simple as he placed a crushing 4th goal into the netting.

With a few minutes remaining in the game, Startime found a little room in the complacency of the Cats lead. A sweet setup would give Startime a shot for the highlight reel as their middy would bicycle one over and unsuspecting Quattrochii. But that was it, nothing else of an attack and the Cats defense shut down the crosses and balls through the air.

The Cats will look to keep alive for their next match after a week's break due to the holiday.

 vs. NJ Lions

League Game 10 - 3/21/10 Ramsey, NJ: For the 2nd time, the WFC would face the NJ Lions. The last meeting ended in a 1-0 loss for the Cats. The first outing of the Spring always brings something interesting as the Cats would try quickly to find their current playing status.

It was an ok start, not the greatest touches, passes, and by no means the greatest fitness. The club hung in for the first half against a first place NJ Lions team. Nothing special on either side of the ball, the Lions struck first. Not the greatest goal, but as long as they go in the net it doesn't really matter. It was definitely a physical game with some fouls and bodies flying, but there just wasn't much to talk about when it came down to the positive play. Probably stemming from lack of fitness, and the first game on a full turf field since mid November. The Cats did have one nice chance in the 2nd half to tie it up when Demba found Samples at the back bar for a header that just didn't connect to goal. Blame it on the sun in his eyes!

With a few minutes remaining the NJ Lions compiled one last run that left the Cats Defense on their heels. The would go up 2-0 for a game ender.

The Cats will look to get the depth back on the bench and some increased fitness and chemistry as they head into this weekends game vs. last year rivals Startime.

 vs. Parsippany Blues

League Game 4 - 9/30/09 Parsippany, NJ: Again the WFC would face the Parsippany Blues as they took to the field in Parsippany. After the first meeting 2 weeks ago, there was hope another Win was in the forecast.

A flat first few minutes and the Blues would counter to go up 1-0. But like déjà vu from the last outing, forward Hollens would net one from a beauty of a through ball from J Depiero out of the back. The even score would bring life back to the Cats as they slowly started to dominate some possession. The Blues seemed to want to throw words and their bodies around, rather than play the game at hand. Striker Smith would blast one from the right to bring the game in the clubs favor on a 2-1 lead. There were plenty of chances as Samples, Brinkofski, Dasilva and Prigot ran all over.

The Cats defense were pretty dominant as they held shots to a minimum. Samples would score on a textbook series of passes around the box, as it hit his foot he buried a burner to the low right corner. As the club saw light on a 3-1 lead, it was in the last minute that Quattrocchi would get steamrolled on a corner that led to the last goal of the night.

Another W in the column, and a beast of a team coming into the Wildcat house this Sunday. The WFC will face a tough Pompton squad for the first time in years which should make for the biggest test to date.

 vs. Startime

League Game 3 - 9/27/09 Ramsey, NJ: The Cats make it 2 in a row in the World Division. Proving that this year it will be tough for opponents to take away points at Smith School, the Cats came out determined to erase that 6-2 lost last spring against Startime. The game started out on the attack as WFC looked to put the Jamaicans away early with great ball possession and precision passing, within the first 25 minutes the Cats had created 3 clear chances to put themselves up top but failed to capitalize. As the first half progressed their opponents would start evening out the ball possession, few hard tackles and a few diagonal runs would be all they could come up with as WFC IRON DEFENSE would hold them to nothing, 0-0 would be the end of the first 45.

Looking to give nothing away, WFC would start the second half on the attack, but a shady PK call from the ref would put Startime up by one. The Cats looked to even up the game right away creating a few more chances with forward Clay Smith forcing the gk to make some diving saves. WFC would find the equalizer off an own goal, miscominication between goalie and defender would put the game tied 1-1. It was then at the 80 minute mark when new comer Matt Powell would take off on the left flank and place a beauty cross in the box finding second year forward Adam Samples for the game winning goal, 2-1 WFC!!!

The Cats will now face in a mid week game the Parsippany Blues looking to make it 3 in a row! Not a bad start for the clubs first time apperance in the World Division.

 vs. Parsippany Blues

League Game 2 - 9/20/09 Ramsey, NJ: The first 8 am game of the season, and the first home opener proved to be a success for the Cats. There’s just something about playing on grass that bodes well for the club as they had a strong game. Putting away 6 goals, the highlight may have been when R. Depiero found netting. There is some discussion between management that the "murder twin" may have to be compensated for his goals on the season. Left winger, Dasilva “the Brazilia” also had a great game and ripped side netting from a blast just outside the box. It seemed like everything was clicking and the possession was in favor for the club.

The WFC defense buried the Blues on some fragmented counter attacks, as the Blues could only net 2. Cobb, R Depiero and Starr all took roles of shutting down the back middle. Rifino, along with rookies, Powell and Huter, also made their marks on the flanks in the back. They put up a fight and held any shooting from the outside to a minimum. “Baby Brother” Brinkofski ran his skirt off and hustled to aid in the defensive shut downs.

Forward J. Hollens found the back of the net thrice. Center mid E Prigot contributed to two of those with assists, and on another to make 3 for the day. Forward A. Samples would hit a one timer from a through ball to ice the cake and put the game far from reach. Great contributions from Midfielders Greenberg and Stokesy were seen throughout the entire match.

# 1 fan, Mr. Prigot had stepped in for assignment of the sidelines as coach Don P was throwing his money away in AC over the weekend. It must be something about that shirt Mr. Prigot was wearing?! He makes them good girls go bad.

Game 3 will be an interesting battle as previous rival, Startime, will venture to the grass of Smith this weekend. Last meeting with them ended in a loss for the Cats at the Ramsey Turf just last spring.
